چکیده

In order to extract neural information, action potentials recorded with cuff electrodes from peripheral nerves were classified into unit activities. The classification was performed based on their waveforms, as it was considered that they were affected by the radius of nerve fiber and the distance between fiber and recording electrode. This study focused on automatic classification method. Action potentials were grouped into each unit by hierarchical cluster analysis and a new eriterion. The method proposed in this study might be applicable to automatic classification of nerve action potentials, because it provided the reliable estimation of unit activities.

Conduction studies in peripheral cat nerve using implanted electrodes: I. Methods and findings in controls.

Silicone rubber cuff and patch electrodes with multiple contacts were implanted along the sciatic-tibial-plantar nerves in cat for repeated studies of conduction properties of normal peripheral nerve over periods of time. The contacts were used in various combinations for precise localization of changes in conduction velocities and excitability along the extent of normal nerves. In this paper t...

Spinal Evoked Potentials: Data and Experience

Peripheral Recording To monitor spinal cord function, peripheral input/output relationships _must be analyzed. Peripheral nerves are, therefore, important sites for stimulation and recording. As is typical for EPs, selection of electrodes and their use is essentially the same for stimulation and recording. There are several types of electrodes used for peripheral nerve stimulation or recording;...

Sensory nerve action potentials in patients with peripheral nerve lesions.

In 1949 Dawson and Scott described a method of examining sensory impulses in human peripheral nerves. By their technique, the median or ulnar nerve at the level of the wrist was stimulated electrically using single shocks, and the action potential of the afferent volley recorded through surface electrodes placed over the nerve trunk at a higher level in the arm. The afferent volley contained bo...

In vivo electrophysiological measurements on mouse sciatic nerves.

Electrophysiological studies allow a rational classification of various neuromuscular diseases and are of help, together with neuropathological techniques, in the understanding of the underlying pathophysiology(1). Here we describe a method to perform electrophysiological studies on mouse sciatic nerves in vivo. The animals are anesthetized with isoflurane in order to ensure analgesia for the t...

Sensory conduction in medial and lateral plantar nerves.

A simple and reliable method of recording medial and lateral plantar nerve sensory action potentials is described. Potentials are recorded with surface electrodes at the ankle using surface electrodes stimulating orthodromically at the sole. The normal values obtained are higher in amplitude than those obtained by the method described by Guiloff and Sherratt and are detectable in older subjects...
